Urgench has become the first administrative center of Uzbekistan to have large-capacity electric buses. The private company "Yangiarik trans" purchased 10 Falcon Murat Adilkhan electric buses for the city, manufactured at the FalconEuroBus enterprise in Kazakhstan. This was reported to "Gazeta.uz" by the press secretary of the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan, Navruz Ashirmatov. The electric buses will hit the routes after the completion of paperwork and distribution along the lines.
According to the Ministry of Transport, 80 medium-capacity Chinese Zhongtong Bus Holding buses are currently operating on six routes in Urgench under a gross contract. They are operated by the company "Bunyod yo'lovchi tashish". The purchase of electric buses is being carried out as part of the "Uzbekistan-2030" strategy, which provides for the transition of urban transport to environmentally friendly fuel.
The trolleybus network will be preserved and developed
The appearance of photos of electric buses in social networks, placed in the trolleybus depot of Urgench, raised the assumption that the new cars could replace the trolleybuses serving the route between Urgench and Khiva. Navruz Ashirmatov refuted these fears in a comment to "Gazeta.uz". He stressed that the country's only trolleybus network will be developed.
Eight trolleybuses are currently operating on the line. The delivery of ten more cars is expected by the end of the year. Recall that in March last year, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced plans to reduce trolleybus traffic intervals by half.
The city is implementing a program to modernize the trolleybus depot. It is being prepared to receive new rolling stock. Charging stations for electric buses are also being installed on the territory of the depot.
