Uzbekistan is introducing significant changes to its drug dispensing system: antibiotics and systemic hormonal drugs are now sold exclusively with an electronic prescription. The new procedure implies that prescriptions will only be issued by a doctor, who will enter the data into a unified digital system, which should reduce cases of self-treatment and strengthen control over drug circulation.
Information about prescribed drugs will be recorded in the e-prescription system using digital confirmation methods. A special Expert Council will be created under the Ministry of Health to form an accurate list of drugs subject to dispensing by e-prescription. At the first stage, it included antibiotics and hormones as the most sensitive categories of drugs.
Separate concessions are provided for patients with chronic diseases and people who are bedridden. Through the short number of the call center 1003, they will be able to contact a family doctor or specialized specialist remotely and receive an electronic prescription to continue treatment. The authorities expect that the new system will make the process more transparent and convenient for both patients and the entire healthcare system.
