On December 17, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation from the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, headed by Speaker Woo Won-shik, who arrived in the country to participate in the third meeting of the heads of parliaments of the Republic of Korea and the Central Asian states. At the beginning of the meeting, the Korean side conveyed greetings and wishes from President Lee Jae-myung to the head of state.
During the negotiations, the parties discussed the further development of a special strategic partnership, including along parliamentary lines. The active development of political dialogue, the growth of inter-parliamentary contacts, as well as an increase in mutual trade and Korean investments aimed at modernizing the economy of Uzbekistan and creating high-tech industries were noted.
Special attention was paid to humanitarian and educational cooperation: four branches of leading Korean universities and vocational education centers in the regions are already operating in Uzbekistan. The parties supported the implementation of joint projects in the fields of infrastructure, transport and logistics, processing of rare metals and critical raw materials, as well as digitalization of legislative activity, emphasizing the importance of preparing a program of inter-parliamentary cooperation and activating parliamentary friendship groups.
