Uzbekistan plans to create a special economic zone based on Japanese models and standards. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will support the project. The initiative was discussed during a meeting between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and representatives of Japanese business circles.
The head of state invited Japanese businesses to take an active part in the modernization and industrialization of the Uzbek economy, as well as in increasing the country's export potential. During the negotiations, the parties identified key areas of cooperation between the companies of the two countries, paying special attention to long-term and technologically complex projects.
Among the priorities were energy sustainability and the transition to "green" energy, as well as the deep processing of strategically important minerals. Promising areas of cooperation include mechanical engineering, the production of industrial equipment, and the development of a high-tech economy. Following the meeting, Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized that Uzbekistan views Japan not only as a source of investment, but also as a strategic partner in shaping the industry of the future, while Japanese businesses expressed their readiness to expand their presence and launch joint projects in the country.
