On January 15, Uzbekistan launched its first universal population census since independence. Citizens can independently fill out an electronic questionnaire via the portal census.stat.uz until January 31, after which, from February 4 to 28, census takers will visit the homes of those who did not participate online.
Data collection will cover all regions and settlements of the country, but not all citizens will be included in the census: residents who have been abroad for more than a year, as well as children born after the start of the campaign, are excluded.
Preliminary results of the census are planned to be published on July 1, 2026, and final data will become available on July 1, 2027, which will allow assessing the demographic situation in the country after several decades.
