Old cars and oversized transport will be banned from February 1, 2026

The government introduces new registration and road safety rules

From February 1, 2026, the operation of vehicles older than 50 years will be prohibited — such cars will be excluded from state registration. This is provided for by government decree No. 11 of February 20 on digitalization and road safety.

In addition, the restrictions will affect trucks with a gross weight of more than 44 tons, special transport for mining, shaft and quarry work, as well as linear taxis owned by legal entities. Separate state license plates will be introduced for "antique" cars.

The new rules simplify registration: now you do not need to specify the owner's address in the documents. Data on the purchase and sale agreement, auction protocol and invoices will be automatically received through interdepartmental electronic systems, which speeds up the process and reduces paperwork.
