Hybrid NPP Instead of Ordinary: Rosatom Radically Changes Project in Uzbekistan

Powerful Power Units Will Be Added to Small Reactors

Rosatom and Uzatom have signed an additional agreement that revises the configuration of the future nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan. The document secures the transition to a combined scheme: the project will combine both small and large power units within a single site.

Two full-fledged power units based on VVER-1000 generation 3+ reactors will be added to the already planned small power plant. At the same time, the composition will include two modules with RITM-200N reactors with a capacity of 55 MW each. This approach should increase the flexibility of the power system and ensure more stable generation.

Earlier, the parties concluded the first export contract for the construction of a small nuclear power plant, and the new agreement actually expands the project to a comprehensive energy cluster. The document was signed by Rosatom head Alexey Likhachev and Uzatom director Azim Akhmedkhadjaev.
