The construction of the Darbaza - Maktaaral line with access to the international crossing remains a key project

Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are strengthening cooperation in the field of railway transportation, focusing on the development of border infrastructure. During a working meeting of the heads of national railway companies, the results of transportation and further steps to increase throughput were discussed.

2025 became a record year for the last decade: the total volume of cargo transportation reached 32.3 million tons, which is 16% more than the previous year. Kazakhstan exported about 13 million tons of cargo, while grain supplies to Uzbekistan increased by 32% and exceeded 4.5 million tons. In 2026, growth continues — 6.6 million tons were transported in the first 2 months, which is 37.5% more year-on-year.

The construction of the Darbaza — Maktaaral line with access to the international crossing remains a key project. At the same time, infrastructure is being modernized, including the introduction of modern traffic management systems. The parties expect to maintain high rates and strengthen the transit potential of the region.
