RBI Prepares for Entry into Uzbekistan: Capital Market Participation Discussed

European Bank May Become Custodian and Connect to the Country's Stock Market Infrastructure

The management of the Republican Stock Exchange "Toshkent" held negotiations with representatives of Raiffeisen Bank International, during which the development of Uzbekistan's capital market and the expansion of international financial players' participation were discussed. The main focus was on increasing investment attractiveness and implementing modern financial solutions.

According to the meeting, RBI is considering entering the Uzbek market as a custodial bank, as well as participating in trading through local brokers. Separately, issues of increasing liquidity, expanding the investor base, and implementing international standards for securities settlement and storage were discussed.

Raiffeisen Bank International already operates in the markets of Central and Eastern Europe and has the infrastructure for direct integration with central depositories. This could simplify foreign investors' access to the Uzbek stock market and increase its integration into the global financial system.
