Uzbekistan Launches Global Cinema Weekend: Betting on Cinema and Tourism

The country aims to become a new filming location and attract global studios

Uzbekistan has announced the launch of a new platform, Global Cinema Weekend, aimed at developing the film industry and tourism. A memorandum of cooperation was signed by the National PR Center under the Tourism Committee and the organizers of Global Tech Weekend Tashkent 2026, within which the initiative will take place.

The event will be held on May 15–17 and will bring together representatives of government, the film business, and the international creative community. The platform will serve as a venue for negotiations between producers, directors, and investors, as well as promote the country as a promising filming location and foster long-term partnerships.

Special emphasis is placed on film tourism – a direction where the popularity of films helps attract tourists and investments. The organizers expect to attract major studios, including Hollywood representatives, and strengthen the country's integration into the global film industry. The project is planned to be developed on an ongoing basis with annual events and the participation of international experts.
