Central Bank of Uzbekistan Records 25% Increase in Cash Turnover

Total Volume of Monetary Transactions Grew by 35%

The Central Bank of Uzbekistan noted a steady increase in cash turnover in the first quarter of 2026 amid monetary liberalization and economic growth. The total volume of receipts through the banking system, including cash and non-cash transactions, reached 316 trillion soums – 35% more than a year earlier. The share of non-cash payments continued to grow and amounted to 47% against 43% in the first quarter of 2025.

Net cash turnover through banks increased by 25% and amounted to 330 trillion soums. Cash receipts grew by 26%, and disbursements by 24%. The main increase was provided by operations with bank deposits, loan repayments, currency sales, as well as withdrawals from cards and deposits. At the same time, the share of cash withdrawals from bank cards decreased to 17%.

As of April 1, 2026, the share of cash in the total money supply decreased to 16.9%. The number of banknotes in circulation also decreased by 262 million units. Banknotes of 200,000 soums dominate the structure, with their share growing to 30.6%. Interbank cash operations continue to be carried out through an electronic platform, to which 1009 organizations are already connected.
