Uzbekistan Prepares for a Digital Leap: 5G, Fiber Optics, and Fast Internet for Millions

Finnish company Omnitele and the country's authorities discussed large-scale modernization of telecommunications infrastructure and new projects in digital connectivity

Uzbekistan continues its course towards developing modern telecommunications infrastructure. The Minister of Digital Technologies, Sherzod Shermatov, held negotiations with representatives of the Finnish company Omnitele, which specializes in consulting and engineering solutions for the telecommunications industry.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the expansion of broadband internet access networks, the implementation of 5G technologies, and the further modernization of the country's network infrastructure. Special attention was paid to issues of planning and optimizing mobile networks, using analytical tools for data processing, and increasing the efficiency of investments in industry development.

A separate topic of negotiations was participation in international initiatives for the development of digital connectivity in Central Asia, including the European Union's Connectivity for Central Asia (C4CA) project. The expansion of mobile coverage, the development of fiber-optic networks, and increasing the availability of high-quality internet services for the population were also discussed. Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their interest in continuing cooperation and implementing joint projects aimed at developing Uzbekistan's digital infrastructure.
