In southern Uzbekistan, Chinese technologies are being increasingly used for cotton cultivation. The main goal is to reduce water consumption: in an arid region, irrigation efficiency is particularly crucial.
Farmers are switching to drip systems that deliver water and fertilizers directly to plants. Water first enters a large basin where it mixes with fertilizers, and then it is distributed through drip lines. This technology helps reduce losses and more precisely control the amount of moisture and nutrients.
On one farm, farmer Shodiyor Minurkulov expects to harvest up to 9 tons of cotton per hectare. According to him, water savings have been significant over two years of using drip irrigation. Currently, about 5,000 hectares in the area are covered by a similar system.
Chinese involvement is not limited to irrigation. Nearby, an agricultural machinery production facility is preparing to launch. Tractors, cotton planters, and combine harvesters are already on site, and the assembly shop is expected to start operations in two months.
Another project involves cotton processing. An enterprise with Chinese capital has already installed equipment and also plans to open in two months. The plant is expected to create over 100 jobs for local residents.
Thus, Chinese technologies are being used in Uzbekistan across the entire production chain – from economical water use and mechanization of field work to processing harvested cotton.
