In the first quarter of 2027, a new international airport is planned to be launched in Bukhara, capable of serving up to 2,000 passengers per hour. Deputy Airport Director Shahboz Khayitov noted that the construction and commissioning of the air harbor are planned for 2026-2027, and the number of employees already amounts to 550 people.
The new air harbor will be able to simultaneously receive up to 16 aircraft per hour and operate more than 100 flights per week. Compared to the current airport, the passenger capacity will increase from 400 to 1,200 people per hour, and the number of parking spaces for aircraft will increase from 7 to 20, which will ensure a significant expansion of the region's logistics capabilities.
The new airport project was presented in May 2024 with an estimated cost of $226 million. The implementation is carried out on the basis of a public-private partnership and is aimed at modernizing the transport infrastructure of the Bukhara region, increasing the volume of air transportation and developing international tourism.
