Scientists at the Institute of the Chemistry of Plant Substances of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan have presented an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional plastic packaging. The project aims to solve the problem of accumulating plastic waste, which persists in nature for decades and harms ecosystems and human health.
The technology is based on water-soluble polysaccharides derived from local plant materials. The developed film is comparable in appearance and strength to polyethylene counterparts, but differs fundamentally in its environmental properties: the material is completely biodegradable, leaves no toxic traces, and is safe for the environment.
According to the authors, the bio-film can be used in the food and pharmaceutical industries, where packaging safety requirements are particularly important. The use of local resources increases the economic feasibility of the project, and its implementation can reduce the amount of plastic waste and support the transition to a more sustainable model of production and consumption.
