Uzbekistan will significantly simplify the VAT refund system for foreign tourists. The corresponding measures were approved by the President of the country, Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The reform is aimed at developing tourist shopping, increasing the transparency of retail trade, and reducing the shadow turnover of goods.
From April 1, the Tax Free system will operate in all international airports of the republic. Currently, special counters are already operating in nine air harbors, including Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Fergana, Urgench, Karshi, Navoi, Nukus, and Termez. At the same time, restrictions on the categories of goods for which a tax refund is possible are lifted, and the minimum purchase amount for receiving compensation is reduced from 1 million to 300 thousand soums.
The speed of refunding funds will also change. If previously the money was transferred to bank cards after the 25th of the following month, now payments will be received within three business days. Tourists will also be able to receive part of the VAT in cash, although the operator will withhold a commission of 15%, while a refund to the card will allow you to return up to 90% of the tax paid. The new measures should significantly increase the volume of purchases made by foreign guests in the country.
