SGB Warns of New Wave of Telephone Fraud: Number Spoofing and AI Deception

Attackers use foreign calls and digital technologies to steal data

The State Security Service of Uzbekistan has reported an increase in suspicious calls from foreign numbers. According to the agency, these calls are made by cyber fraudsters who use number spoofing technologies and Internet infrastructure, which allows them to mask the real origin of the calls.

Experts note that such calls are often not tied to real SIM cards and exist as temporary digital identifiers. This makes it almost impossible to accurately determine the source of the call. Fraudsters often pose as bank or government officials and try to obtain verification codes and other confidential information.

The risk of calling back to such numbers is particularly emphasized - this can lead to the debiting of funds. In addition, even the very fact of the answer is recorded and can be used for further attacks. The agency also warns about the possible use of voice recordings to create fakes using artificial intelligence technologies, including voice imitation to deceive relatives.
