Uzbekistan is set to change the very principle of energy supply management. Instead of addressing accidents and shortages after they occur, authorities intend to calculate the needs of each district in advance and prepare infrastructure for future demand. This approach, tested in 14 districts, is planned to be extended nationwide.

As part of the pilot project, specialists surveyed 916 mahallas, 832 thousand households, 49 thousand enterprises, and over 2.2 thousand social facilities. Energy passports have been created for each mahalla, and consumption balances have been calculated. A deficit of 60 MW of electrical power was found in 265 mahallas, and a shortage of 47 million cubic meters of gas per year in another 42.

Extensive repairs are planned for the next five years: 2261 transformers and 7449 km of power grids, as well as 313 gas distribution units and 327 km of gas networks, will be upgraded. As a result, an additional transmission capacity of 1300 MW is expected. Simultaneously, authorities forecast a 49% increase in energy resource demand.

Special attention will be paid to the energy efficiency of social facilities. The implementation of the program, according to calculations, will save 4.3 million kWh of electricity and 2.1 million cubic meters of natural gas annually.
