The project for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan has been expanded. Rosatom will build not only a small, but also a large nuclear power plant. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Economic Development.
This year, the leaders of the countries reached an agreement to reformat the project, and to build a two-unit large power plant and a two-unit small power plant.
The construction timeline for the large nuclear power plant has not yet been specified. At the end of April, Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev stated that the company expects to pour concrete for the foundation of the small nuclear power plant in about a year.
Initially, the project, signed in the spring of 2024, provided for the construction of six reactors with a capacity of 55 MW each. Work was scheduled to begin in the summer of 2025, and commissioning was planned for the period from 2029 to 2033.
