New rules regulating the use of artificial intelligence and the protection of personal data have come into force in Uzbekistan. The Law "On Informatization" and a number of other regulatory acts have been supplemented with provisions that define AI as a set of technologies capable of imitating human knowledge, learning and making decisions. At the same time, it is forbidden to rely entirely on AI when making legally significant decisions affecting the rights of citizens.
Particular attention is paid to the protection of personal data: the illegal use of AI for processing, transferring or publishing personal information via the Internet, media or telecommunications networks now entails administrative liability. Violators face a fine of 50 to 100 times the minimum расчетный показатель, the maximum amount is up to 41.2 million soums, and confiscation of technical equipment is also possible.
The law also clarifies the powers of the state body responsible for regulating AI, and lays the foundation for the safe and transparent implementation of these technologies in the country. The innovations are aimed at stimulating the development of digital solutions while respecting the rights and safety of citizens.
